The Esplendor Resort is about 50 miles south of Tucson along I-19, just north of Nogales and border region. El Esplendor sits on a hill overlooking the dry lands below. It has a wonderful setting, a golf course, and basic rooms that are comfortable and clean. The pool area is magnificent, with comfy couches and lots of shade and friendly staff that will bring you rum and cokes poolside.
The décor of the El Esplendor is all Spanish Colonial—including the dresses worn by the waitresses in the dining room, which serves pretty good breakfasts. This is a fine resort, and it’s a good option if you’re going to be spending a lot of time along the border or in nearby Tubac or Green Valley. This beautiful Rio Rico resort has 179 rooms, including just over a dozen suites with one bedroom. Each of the suites are decorated in a culturally unique way ranging from Old West, a Mexican estate, a Victorian bordello, and so forth.
The golf course at Esplendor features 18 wonderful holes and was designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr. If you’ve forgotten to bring your clubs, or simply don’t want to lug them with you while travelling, the Esplendor offers free clubs to use for hotel guests.
